INFPs care deeply for others and believe it is their duty to make a positive impact on the lives of other people in any way they can. INFPs are firm believers in the unlimited potential of human beings to achieve remarkable things, and they can always be counted on to provide encouragement or material support to those who are attempting to expand their horizons.

Integrity means everything to INFPs, and that includes intellectual as well as moral integrity. Some people might accuse INFPs of being overly imaginative or of being willing to stretch logic to the breaking point in order to find the deeper meaning they insist must exist, but there is no denying that the deeply reflective nature of INFPs allows them to transcend the boundaries of imagination that so often prevent us from discovering new solutions to old problems.

As empathic idealists, harmonious relations are like a balm to the soul for INFPs. In family settings or when working in groups, INFPs are highly effective as mediators because they are legitimately interested in the viewpoints of all and will go out of their way to make sure that everyone is given a fair hearing.

They are enthusiastic advocates of cooperation and believe that no difficulty is insurmountable when people work together for a common cause. Fortunately, INFPs are masters at doing just that. Passionate and committed to the cause, these personalities have a unique ability to mold and shape their surrounding environment in ways that promote self- improvement and transcendent achievement for all.

Their deep compassion, sensitivity and commitment to originality allows INFPs to interface with their interpersonal landscapes in a constructive manner, but these feelings also leave them vulnerable to disillusionment and powerful existential angst. While their insistence on standing up for justice and decency is admirable, the intensity of their feelings can occasionally leave INFPs unwilling to make compromises even when doing so might be necessary to get something accomplished.

Sticking to your morals is admirable, but in the real world it may be impossible to accomplish anything unless the INFP can find a way to give and take a little and find practical, if imperfect, solutions to problems.

INFPs have a tendency to neglect or suppress their own needs if they believe it is necessary to keep the peace or make others happy. When a person holds his or her insecurities inside for too long, it can eventually cause a blow-up or an emotional breakdown. Sensitive INFPs often suffer in silence, and this is a pity because INFPs and their fellow travelers usually have people in their lives who care about them a lot and would be more than happy to help them deal with their heartaches and disappointments.

Compassionate to the core, INFPs lead with their hearts rather than their heads and this can sometimes set them up for trouble. Learn to recognize the difference between compromise and concession.

People who disagree with INFPs are simply seeing things from a different point of view, but to an INFP, it can feel like they are being backed into a corner. Instead of digging in their heels, INFPs must find a way to detach from the situation so they can comprehend the motivations of their opposition more clearly. If it is only a difference in values and not a lack of them that is responsible for divergent opinions, then INFPs should not expect others to give in to stubbornness any more than they would if the shoe were on the other foot.

Make sure dreams and fantasies are used to enhance reality rather than replace it. INFPs who look out at the world with idealistic eyes often see grand vistas of beauty and limitless possibility that others are not capable of perceiving.

But INFPs sometimes choose to retreat into these fantasies instead of using them to solve real-world problems. Imagination can open the door to better possibilities, and INFPs should never lose sight of its transformative potential.

Learn to respect the details. INFPs may find this aspect of the creative processes a bit boring, but they should challenge themselves to overcome their disinterest and pay attention to all those annoying details anyway. Seek out leadership positions. INFPs have strong egalitarian instincts, are natural conciliators, passionately believe in the utility of cooperation, are excellent listeners, and never fail to pay attention when someone has a new idea to share.

Above all else, leaders must have the respect of those they presume to lead, and INFPs are just as capable of gaining that respect as any other personality type. Accept themselves as they are without apology. Because their standards are so high, INFPs have a hard time forgiving themselves when they fail to meet their own expectations. They may also become indecisive and fall into a perfectionism so extreme that it cuts off their flow of creativity and makes it impossible for them to excel and achieve.

This dynamic is unfortunate, especially as INFPs would never think of holding others to such impossible standards. For the sake of their mental health and happiness, INFPs must learn to stop comparing themselves to others and recognize that they should prioritize their own happiness. Do any other INFP's relate to struggling in friendship and love life?

In the past I have had one sided friendship that didn't serve me. Most of the times, the other person saw me more as a therapist than a friend, and of course because I'm a good listener that wanted to help, I didn't realize how draining it was, until months after.Mediator personalities are true idealists, always looking for the hint of good in even the worst of people and events, searching for ways to make things better. While they may be perceived as calm, reserved, or even shy, Mediators have an inner flame and passion that can truly shine.

Being a part of the Diplomat Role group, Mediators are guided by their principles, rather than by logic Analystsexcitement Explorersor practicality Sentinels.

When deciding how to move forward, they will look to honor, beauty, morality and virtue — Mediators are led by the purity of their intent, not rewards and punishments. People who share the Mediator personality type are proud of this quality, and rightly so, but not everyone understands the drive behind these feelings, and it can lead to isolation. All that is gold does not glitter; not all those who wander are lost; the old that is strong does not wither; deep roots are not reached by the frost.

At their best, these qualities enable Mediators to communicate deeply with others, easily speaking in metaphors and parables, and understanding and creating symbols to share their ideas. Fantasy worlds in particular fascinate Mediators, more than any other personality type.

The strength of their visionary communication style lends itself well to creative works, and it comes as no surprise that many famous Mediators are poets, writers and actors. Understanding themselves and their place in the world is important to Mediators, and they explore these ideas by projecting themselves into their work. If they are not careful, Mediators can lose themselves in their quest for good and neglect the day-to-day upkeep that life demands.

Mediators often drift into deep thought, enjoying contemplating the hypothetical and the philosophical more than any other personality type.

3 Tips For Being Unstoppable - INFP-focused

See our Privacy Policy for more info. The result is usually a progressive discomfort that leads from dis-ease of the mind to mental or physical disease. The mind is upset, confused and set in question format.

Why did this or that have to happen, why did someone have to disrupt your progress. Have you ever wondered how to stop procrastinating? This week, let us work on getting a grip on procrastination and its effects that lend obscurity to our daily grind.

No matter how small it is, daily achievements can lead to happier, healthier, even wealthier days. In an ideal world, everyone would like to accomplish more things in less time.

As is typical of infps, one of the most difficult things to accomplish is focus on a single task or project. The other thing is their ability to complete tasks is based solely on how intensely they feel about the subject matter or the person behind the project. Other pliable reasons that infps leave projects uncompleted are when they lose interest, or if they hit an obstacle such as a lack of resources. The following are three practical tips to help infps and everyone else to work smarter and produce more.

Some may feel like their silent nature and shyness limit their abilities, while others will feel that their active and deep minds could be a very strong tool that could propel them to success, but only if ever, it could be put to good use. INFPs are very dedicated to their assigned projects when they are passionate about it.

They like to leave a lasting impression and most times, that is exactly what happens. The fact that the project may be started at the last minute may have an impact on its final delivery. While most times, the INFP will spend several hours in the last moments of a project and deliver it right before its deadline, it may leave no room for corrections if there are to be any.

This is why it is important that you learn how how to take criticism and practice emotional control. INFPs are highly analytical individuals with active inner minds that are constantly involved in deep thoughts.

It is therefore more common these individuals might end up in a depression especially if they are emotionally connected to a problem, be it theirs or someone close. However, despite their brains being their weakness, being in control of their minds can be their biggest strength when it comes to overcoming depression. There are different approaches to how INFPs can overcome depression, as briefly discussed below.I had just completed an Online Myers-Briggs inventory, and the result initially registered as disbelief.

The individual described was intensely interested in things like feelings, bringing healing to the world, and was idealistic as a rule. To my disdain, the result was replete with pictures of carefree young women and men dancing in the middle of Woodstock-like settings. I had spent the last several years trying to become sensible, strategic, and facts-driven.

Introduction

Eventually, a bout of significant anxiety led me to explore why I felt so out of sync. The reasons may be numerous, but at the heart of the resistance is the sense that INFPs are soft, meek, and incapable of action. As such, we often end up betraying our personality by trying to become what we are not. The military seemed like a natural option. I grew up the son of a career military officer, and my dad was my hero. His world was data, hard decisions, and tough mindedness.

My world was considerably less concrete. I daydreamed about starring for the Los Angeles Dodgers, saving the damsel in distress, and being the lead actor in a never-ending series of dramatic and romantic roles. I did play baseball, but I was more in love with the fantasy of baseball than the reality. I wanted Field of Dreams, not hours of endless grinding practices, calloused hands, and competition.

I dreamed about being the lead actor in the latest Romantic Comedy, but I was too terrified to take the chance of putting myself in front of people artistically. I noticed that what I was doing with my time was imagining all the things I could be doing without putting my dreams to action.

As any undeveloped INFP will admit, however, a world of inner fantasies with no outer accomplishments begins to feel empty. It leads to the exploration of possibilities in any and every setting. It plays in the surrounding environment.

Authenticity experiments take chances on new experiences and, for INFPs specifically, can be a great source of fun for social experimentation! Stated simply, Exploration is how Authenticity meets the outer world.

Embracing Your INFP Personality Type

Sadly, when Exploration is not married to Authenticity, the Introverted Feeling that we associate with our personality becomes a source of pain rather than peace and happiness. If internal convictions and visions are never shared with other people, life becomes lonely.

I believe many INFPs have had experiences at early ages that led to a lifelong repression of the Exploration function. A friend once conveyed that as a child he would daydream about being in the shows he would watch and that he did poorly in school because his fantasy world was so much more interesting than the classroom. You stopped exploring and sharing your inner world because every time you would try, it would be derided as daydreaming, fantastic, and not based in reality.

You must be the one who shows the world all the beauty that is inside while accepting that some may not appreciate your openness. People who have Effectiveness as a Driver or Co-Pilot are masters at identifying objectives and accomplishing goals.

They deal with facts, data, and concrete realities. I believe many INFPs feel an unconscious pressure to develop Effectiveness because it is so practical. In psychological theory, this is a misguided attempt to find wholeness in a process that you will never be able to develop maturely.

Trying to force Effectiveness for an INFP is like giving that 3 Year Old the wheel to your personality car and expecting it to behave maturely.Being called weird or awkward can certainly have negative connections to it, but to some people it can be endearing and sets people apart from being ordinary. For some it seems to be a common occurrence, as many people see them as weird, especially if they feel awkward around others and have tendencies which express this outwardly.

For the INFP being seen as weird is not an uncommon thing, as most people can see them as unusual. People who are fake and pretend to be something they are not, seem dishonest and draining for the INFP. They would rather be true to themselves, even if this means being seen as strange or different.

They might not always be someone that people understand or relate to on the surface, but in truth INFPs have a lot to offer and a rich inner world which they want to share with someone special.

The way their minds see the world can make them feel alienated at times, and not in connection with outside expectations. INFPs have strong inner morals which makes it important for them to follow what they believe is right, even if that goes against what people expect from them. The fact that they are uncommon personality types, does sometimes make it hard for them to easily fit in or conform. Being a rare personality type can make it hard for the INFP at times, never truly feeling like they fit in and struggling to find their place.

INFPs have strong inner morals which makes it important for them to stand up for what they believe in. Their sense of self is a major part of the INFP, and is not something they can just deviate from. They develop a strong awareness of what they believe in and what expectations they have for themselves. Even if their behaviors are a bit unusual or different, the INFP feels the need to be themselves no matter what.

Sometimes this means dressing different, listening to their own music, or just focusing on the causes which matter to them most. This does make the INFP seem weird to some, but they are simply being themselves.

INFPs are dreamers with rich inner minds and imaginations, and this in and of itself can make them seem strange or even awkward to others. They can seem like their minds are somewhere else, because they often are. They have so much going on inside of their heads and hearts, that it can be hard for them to pull out of this at times. They become so caught up inside of their own thoughts, and can appear to be off somewhere else.

INFPs daydream and spend time imagining different things, which can cause them to appear easily distracted. They will be sensitive to the emotional climate of the home and will be affected if there are conflicts or quarrels. They are also likely to perform acts of services at home and in the classroom to seek approval and encouragement. They will also be more expressive with their emotions and will laugh or cry more easily than their Thinking counterparts.

If they have not properly developed this function in their youth, they may run from creative insight to insight, seeking inspiration but never follow through. They will show this development by their quickness of understanding in grasping new concepts. They may enjoy subjects that deal with abstract theory like Mathematics or the Social Sciences depending on how its taught.

If they have not been allowed to develop this function, they may not take notice of current realities and instead make a decision solely on their personal values.

Why INFP Females Are So Unique

Assuming an environment is supportive of their development; most INFPs would have developed Extraverted Intuition and Introverted Feeling by 20 years or so. Their areas of improvement will most likely come from the underdeveloped sides of Introverted Sensing and Extraverted Thinking. Below are some suggestions for improvement:.

If those functions are not developed by the age of 30, the INFP will feel the tension to continue growing and to start developing the Tertiary Function Introverted Sensing.

INFPs may start observing details of objects and people that they have never observed before. In their decision making, they may also begin to rely on their past experiences instead of relying on inspirations from the environment.

Their underdeveloped Extraverted Thinking comes out in a childish and undeveloped way when they are under stress, causing them to question their competence or be sarcastic to an offending party.

But in midlife, there is an unconscious shift and desire to develop that inferior function to achieve wholeness and continual growth.

It is an uncomfortable but necessary transition. Here are some simple exercises to consciously develop the Extraverted Thinking function:. Create New. Already have an account? Sign In. The INFP can further develop the Introverted Sensing function through these simple exercises: When you are given a task, do not jump into it immediately. Instead, break the task down into sequential steps and allocate a certain time to each task before proceed to execute the task.

Recall a significant event that happened before in your life, recount the details of this event: the sights, sound, smell, touch and taste. Do not try to make connections or consider implications, but consider the event as it is.

Close your eyes and observe your bodily functions: your breathing and the sensation that your body is feeling right now. Here are some simple exercises to consciously develop the Extraverted Thinking function: When conducting a meeting, stay task-oriented.INFPs care deeply for others and believe it is their duty to make a positive impact on the lives of other people in any way they can.
